Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Online Notepad Tool does with data. It is written to be read rather than to be skimmed past, so it says plainly where the site collects nothing and where it does.

Who is responsible

Online Notepad Tool is operated by Saugata Singh, 1/37 Azadgarh, Regent Park, Kolkata 700040, West Bengal, India. That is the data controller for the purposes of the UK and EU GDPR. For anything in this policy, contact hello@onlinenotepadtool.com.

Your notes

Everything you type into any editor on this site is written to your browser's localStorage on the device you are using. It is not transmitted to us, it is not stored on a server, and it does not pass through any system we control. There is no account, so there is nothing for your text to be attached to.

The practical consequences are worth being clear about, because they cut both ways:

• Nobody operating this site can read your notes, and no breach of ours could expose them.
• Your notes are only on that one device, in that one browser. They do not sync anywhere.
• Clearing your browsing data or site data deletes them, and we cannot restore them.
• Anyone else with access to that browser profile can read them. This is not encrypted storage.

The site also stores your light or dark theme choice in the same place. That is a single preference value and nothing else.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people use the site and which pages they reach. It records things like the page visited, approximate location derived from a truncated IP address, browser and device type, and how you arrived. It does not receive the contents of your notes, because your notes never leave your browser.

Google's handling of that data is described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can prevent it entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

Not currently in use. No advertising script is loaded on this site at the moment, and no ad cookies are set. The section below describes what will happen once advertising is switched on.

This site carries advertising through Google AdSense, which is what pays for it being free. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and, depending on your settings and location, to personalise them based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

How consent is handled

This site uses Google Consent Mode with region-scoped defaults. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalisation all start denied, and Google evaluates that against the request itself rather than relying on anything this page detects. Outside those regions, analytics storage starts granted and advertising storage stays denied.

Being straight about the limit: there is currently no consent banner, so in those regions the denied default is not something you can change here, it simply holds. Before advertising is enabled for visitors in those regions, a Google-certified consent management platform will be added so the choice is genuinely yours to make. Until then the denial stands, which is the conservative direction.

Cookies and local storage in summary

• Your notes and theme preference. Local storage, first party, stays on your device, never sent anywhere.
• Google Analytics. Cookies used to count visits and sessions.
• Google AdSense and its partners. Cookies used to serve, cap and measure ads.

Your browser can block or delete any of these. Blocking them does not stop the editors working, although clearing local storage will delete your notes along with everything else.

What we do not do

• We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name or email unless you choose to email us.
• We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the Google advertising described above.
• We do not read, store, analyse or train anything on the contents of your notes.

If you email us

When you contact hello@onlinenotepadtool.com we receive your email address and whatever you write. It is used to reply to you and nothing else, and it is kept only as long as the exchange is useful.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your personal data, and to complain to a data protection authority. Write to hello@onlinenotepadtool.com and we will act on it.

In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you. Anything you want deleted is either data held by Google, which the opt-out links above control, or your notes, which are on your own device and which you can delete yourself by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and it will be removed.

International transfers

The site is served from a global content delivery network, and Google processes analytics and advertising data on servers in various countries including the United States. Those transfers rely on the safeguards described in Google's own policies.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be noted on this page rather than made quietly.
